EXPLORE
I believe humans exist within 3 facets:
True Nature: essential nature, or call it God or reality
Innate Nature: our individual disposition
Nurture: our personal history
MY ORIENTATION
To recognize, navigate, and integrate these facets is what I’ve devoted much of my life to and where I can offer guidance.
True Nature: for decades, I’ve been practicing meditation, and am inspired by three main teachers: Pema Chodron, Shunryū Suzuki Roshi, and Charlotte Joko Beck
Innate Nature: Since 1993 I've studied the spiritually oriented personality typing system, the enneagram, as a tool for inner work – first with my close friend, Marika Dentai, and later with Claudio Naranjo at SAT. The enneagram is not about understanding our ego so we can have a new and improved model of personality structure. It is about seeing the barriers, and reclaiming our access, to essential nature. It’s an assist in the movement towards presence.
Nurture: I studied Classical Chinese Medicine with 88th generation Taoist priest Jeffrey Yuen in which medicine is rooted in understanding the soul first. Among the teachers I’ve been lucky to work with are clown therapist Alain Vigneau, authentic movement teacher Betina Waissman, gestalt therapist Assumpta Mateu, and somatic therapist Cherif Chalakani to name a few. My own nurture includes being first generation American of immigrants.
Navigation: I have extensive training in Eugene Gendlin’s focusing, a method he described as “direct access to a bodily knowing”. Other types of inquiry I might use include repeating questions, parts work, authentic movement, and somatic experiencing.
Integration: This is a lifetime endeavor.
MY EXPERIENCE
“We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are.”
While I am keenly interested in how your past has brought you here, we will not dwell there. Since your truth, i.e. you as you are, is our concern, there is absolutely nothing you need to do in preparation for our session. Chances are I will get a sense of your ennea type, but I’ve been known to be unsure at first meeting. Even so, I hope to be of service to you.
I am always looking for an experiential dimension to anchor your insights into your lived experience so we might use practical exercises and experiments to integrate your new understanding. We’ll do that in the ways that suit you best.
